OUR SYNOD

The word synod comes from a Greek word that means "walking together." In 1847, 15 congregations in the Midwest began "walking together" in their teaching and living of the Christian faith. Today, our congregation joins with them and more than 6000 other congregations throughout the U.S. representing over 2.3 million members. Together, we call ourselves the Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod (LCMS), as we proclaim Jesus' death and resurrection for the sins of all humanity. Our World Mission brings this Good News to 88 countries while our World Relief and Human Care addresses the physical needs of people in our own country and throughout the world. We promote education as we support two seminaries, ten universities, and hundreds of preschools, grade schools, and high schools. In these and other areas, we are committed to the truth of God's Word in the Holy Scriptures as set forth in the Lutheran Confessions.
